Regarding your last paragraph, do you not take into account that the markets may have risen because 1.) pension funds and insurance companies are pressed to show performance, 2.) trust in the banks has eroded, posing a question about the safety of non-insured deposits, and 3.) the future value of paper money seems uncertain? It would appear that many investors steers a slender course between two illusions.
